About DeClassified Now

DeClassified Now is an independent publication about recently declassified information, and the documents that come out of it: declassified intelligence files, diplomatic cables, court records, and official histories, along with the national security and press-freedom news that shapes what is available for the public see.

Governments release thousands of pages of once-secret records every year, and most of it goes unread. We read it. We report what newly released records actually say, what they add to the public record, and where they still leave gaps.

How we report

Our articles are built on primary sources. Factual claims are footnoted to the specific document, and often to the page, and each article ends with a source list linking to the original records wherever they are publicly available. Readers can check our work against the record itself.

We distinguish between what a document states, what other researchers and archives have concluded, and what remains classified or redacted. When a key passage is still withheld, we say so instead of filling the gap with speculation.

What we publish

News: general news, recent declassification, transparency, national security, and press freedom.
Declassified: in-depth reporting on newly released documents and what they reveal.
Archives: longer historical accounts drawn from the declassified record, such as Cold War intelligence operations. These are background features, not breaking news.
Opinion: commentary and analysis, labelled as opinion and kept separate from our reporting.
Editors’ Pick: a selection of our strongest work.

Who we are

DeClassified Now is owned by DeClassifiedNow.com and is based in Alberta, Canada. We cover world news, western hemisphere government records, along with international material where relevant. Owner David Paul reads every article before it goes live.
